Sydney Audio Club Meeting - December 2024
Sunday 8th December 2024: The December Meeting will welcome back Andrew Hutchison, from Stereotech (Qld), who will showcase the Dellichord FR2035 Active Isobaric 3-way floorstanders, and also introduce the Dellichord entry level 70S loudspeakers.
The December meeting will also include our Christmas BBQ lunch and Raffle.
The doors will be open from 12:00pm to meet and chat with members whilst enjoying a BBQ lunch, before the meeting commences, featuring the Dellichord speakers presentation from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
Dear members and friends of Sydney Audio Club Inc.
The next Sydney Audio Club meeting on the 8th of December Andrew Hutchison, from Stereotech, will present the new Dellichord FR2035 Active Isobaric 3-way floorstander speakers, and also introduce the Dellichord entry level 70S stand mount speakers. These are at opposite ends of the Dellichord range - the top end FR2035 and the entry level 70S.
Neither of these loudspeakers are yet in retailers and the only people who have heard them are visitors to the Sydney and Melbourne HiFi Shows. This means the Sydney Audio Club is amongst the first to experience these loudspeakers. What might be of interest to members is that the 70S has been designed with three options:
We will also hold our Christmas BBQ Lunch and Raffle at this December meeting
Details of the system for December 8:
Dellichord FR2035 Active Isobaric 3-way floorstander speakers: The system consists of two parts. The FR35 bookshelf monitor PLUS the FR20 IsoActive Bass Module EQUALS the FR2035 IsoActive System. Both loudspeakers are powered by the cutting edge amplifier in the FR20 bass module.
The solo FR35 bookshelf monitor provides musical reproduction that delivers outstanding sound quality in full colour. Improving on this perfection in sound is difficult except when it ratchets up a notch into an FR2035 IsoActive System. Then you have a sound system offering exquisite expressiveness with a soundstage illuminated with great depth and dimension. In any sized room, the sound is remarkably transparent, finely detailed and textured with wonderful instrument placement. Of course the bass extension and weight improves considerably offering incredibly lifelike performance.
The Tech Specs are available here, and you can also find the SoundStage review of the FR2035 here.
Dellichord 70S standmount 2-way bass reflex speakers: This model is a brand-new clean-sheet design for Dellichord, building upon two previous designs involving years of research and experimentation. The first was an early wide-baffle design employing larger drive units and cabinet size, not in production. The second was the M6, Dellichord's first production model. The valuable insights gained from the M6's birch ply cabinet and what works and what doesn't with this material were instrumental in creatin a highly inert design for the 70S Model.
The same bass-mid drive unit used in the M6, known for its extraordinarly smooth and detailed response, even before crossover circuits kick in, is also employed in the 70S Model.
The wide-baffle 10" two-way design, which was refined over nearly a year, provided valuable insights into the benefits of a wide baffle in taming diffraction issues and manipulating baffle-related frequency response challenges. At the time, the team felt that such a large, DeVore Audio-style enclosure might not be acceptable. However, the work done by Andrew Hutchison in completing this design, and the previous M6, set him up well to resolve the design of the 70S Model, confident of excellent results.
The 70S Tech Sheet is available here.
Supporting the Dellichord speakers will be a:
NAIM Star All-In-One Integrated Amplifier: Delivering 70W per channel into 8 ohms, the Uniti Star offers plenty of features and the ability to play, rip, store and serve your treasured music collection. Stream your music in high-resolution, play or rip your CDs, tune in to your favourite radio stations, access a world of music with a host of streaming services and dramatically improve the audio quality of your TV or games console. Ready to go with practically any speaker set-up, Uniti Star will have you rediscovering your entire music collection with a deep, immersive sound.
We will also have The Club's Reavon player available for those wishing to play CDs.
The December meeting will also include our Christmas BBQ lunch and Raffle.

- The 70S RTA - ready to assemble - a DIY kit allowing you to truly be a part of the process of creating your loudspeakers by painting and assembling. This is supplied with a completed crossover to ensure that all 70S owners experience the same wonderful sound profile.
- The 70S RTP - ready to paint - fully assembled in raw birch plywood for you to immerse yourself in customising your speakers your way.
- The 70S Retail ready - clear coated, assembled, ready to enjoy straight out of the box. You will see stands in the images which are designed specifically for the 70S and for record storage. These are available as a seperate purchase.

The doors will be open from around 12:00 pm to meet and chat with members before the BBQ commences from 12:30pm. (Note that there is No TechTalk this month). We will then delve into auditioning the Dellichord speakers in the general monthly meeting and presentation from 2 - 5:00pm. There may also be a short afternoon tea break during the meeting, followed by members music selections for the second half of the meeting. Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.
If you happen to be late just quietly slide into a seat and join the discussion. As our club is based on mutual respect, especially in these open presentations, let us remain respectful towards one another’s views and opinions.
The second half of the music session is designed to help you evaluate the system with music that you are familiar with. All members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music to play on CD or USB or speak to Andrew to load your streaming selection.
All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. We will also have a club member act as Disc Jockey for this session.
Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.
Please bring your music to share with other club members.
