Sydney Audio Club Meeting - April 2022
April Follow Up Report
It was great to be back for the second meeting of the year and hopefully in a general sense back to regular monthly meetings and a sense of normalcy for the club. This meeting had a busier agenda than normal as it was the AGM (2 years worth) and also the President paid tribute to Keith Morrison. Keith was a founding member of the club and had been its long term treasurer. He will be greatly missed by the members and he is one of the major reasons the club is successful 15 years later after its formation.
Alex Wilson from the Life Style Store in North Parramatta presented the Klipsch Cornwall IV speakers and the brand new Audio Research I/50 Amplifier.
The Klipsch speakers have a long heritage and visually this is prevalent with quite a wide speaker and overall a traditional or classic looking speaker. Of course with a 15” woofer driver the cabinet by necessity is going to be wide. Initially you would assume they require a large room to sound the best but Alex commented on the fact that they are not too room sensitive in regards to placement and they had them in quite a small room at the Lifestyle Store.
Klipsch speakers have a reputation for a very clear and detailed sound signature and this can be maintained at very high sound levels. Prior to the club meeting starting Alex cranked up the system during setup and the committee members experienced higher sound levels than our normal meetings which was easy to achieve when the speakers have a high sensitivity of 102 db.
The Audio Research I/50 amplifier rated at a modest 50 watts was more than capable of supplying the speakers with enough power to achieve very high sound levels without any degradation in sound quality. While the I/50 is marketed as a more affordable product in the Audio Research range it obviously benefits from the engineering knowledge and quality of the Audio Research companies higher end products.
The combination of the Klipsch speaker and Audio Research amplifier was a great combination which easily filled the meeting room. The sound was crystal clear and an excitement provided to the music. There was much discussion between the members during the tea break with many comments on what a great meeting it is and discussion on the configuration of the Klipsch speaker. The club doesn’t experience many horn loaded speakers at its meetings.
The AGM was held prior to afternoon tea and all went smoothly with re-elected committee and the passing of 2 years of accounts.
It was a another successful and enjoyable meeting with the Lifestyle Store generously providing high quality equipment and Alex providing his time to discuss the products and his experience with equipment. The club would like to thank and acknowledge the Lifestyle Store and Alex for their time and generosity.

Following the AGM and afternoon tea the second half of the music sessions was our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all, and to bring along your favourite music on CD, SACD or USB thumb/flash drive.
All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.
Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. If you are a guest and would like to attend, please email <[email protected]> to ensure we will not exceed the room numbers for the current Covid Guidelines.
