Sydney Audio Club Meeting - Sunday 17th November 2019 - Serhan+Swift
For our November club meeting we are very pleased to have Morris Swift and Brad Serhan of Serhan+Swift present to the club.
(Note that our usual EOY BBQ is at 1:00, followed by our AGM at 2:00. The S+S presentation will start soon afterwards.)
Details of the system…
Speakers – an "analog active" version of the Serhan+Swift MU2 speaker. A central box houses the amplifiers and analog active crossovers. The active components are thus separated from the speakers to keep vibration and stray magnetic fields away from the electronics, while keeping heat out of the speaker itself. There is no DSP involved in the signal handling.
Note that this is a prototype model and still under development.
Oppo BDP-105D – source for Morris’ presentation and our BYO session.
The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD or USB thumb/flash drives (sorry, no vinyl). We MAY have some R2R tape in as well – TBD. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.
Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.

Follow-Up Report
We had great attendance at our November club meeting. No doubt our BBQ was just a bit more of an incentive to come in – there were lots of snags, salads, beer, soft drinks, nibbles.
After our BBQ we held our AGM. Four members chose to not stand again for their positions – Tom Waters, Steve Polley, Stephanos Eliades and Andrew Baldwin. The members voted John McEvoy as the new club President, Chris Lilly for the new Secretary and Vedran Simunovic as the new Events Coordinator. The main positions were all filled – others to follow. As the new President, John McEvoy asked me to continue to host the meeting.
After the AGM, we introduced our special guest presenters. I introduced Brad Serhan and Morris Swift of Serhan+Swift. Brad is a modest and quiet fellow and prefers to let the products do his talking. So Morris presented their choice of music and explained their product. For small speakers, they sounded remarkably big, and were very clear with great tonality. I thought they’d garner lots of favourable comments, and they did.
Just before our break, Les Davis of Les Davis Audio presented a quick talk and demo of his damping products. Earlier he'd put some damping devices on the cables. Whilst music was playing he swapped in/out a damping device under the main power board for the system. The effect was subtle from the side of the room (where I was), but some people in the middle/centre said they could hear the improvement.
Our break was special too..! Club members Ruth and Alex Wilson brought in two different delicious desserts.
After our break, we had our usual raffle followed by our BYO music session.
Here’s some feedback from the feedback forms:
“World class sound. Well done to the designers.”
“Another good meeting to end the year. System punched well above its weight – impressed.”
“Enjoyable meeting.”
“Interesting to hear kit in development.”
“Appreciated the short intro by designer.”
“Very informative in terms of crossover functionality. These are really good speakers.”
“Impressive speakers for the size. Big thanks to Steve and Ruth for the desserts.”
“Some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard.”
“Very good speakers and matched power amp.”
“Very impressed with the sound.”
“Great way to finish the year.”
“Amazing speakers for their size.”
“Sound stage was amazing.”
“Very impressive for size. Big thanks to Tom for all his work during the last 8+ years.”
“Simply magic! Almost a perfect system as whole. Thank you to Tom and Steve for your great contribution.”
